AEM Limited, a subsidiary of Umeco plc, a leading international provider of value-added services, components and composite materials primarily to the aerospace and defence industry, is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with Thales Electrical Systems of France. The 10-year agreement approves AEM's Aviation Windings Business Unit (AWBU) for the winding of the main stator on the A380 variable frequency generator. Additional wound components are to be added as the contract progresses.
AWBU, recently acquired by Umeco, provides highly specialised expertise in the manufacture and repair of wound components used primarily in electric motors and generators for in-flight operations. AWBU's strong capabilities in the winding arena make it one of the market leaders in its field, complementing AEM's broad portfolio of repair and overhaul services.
"Thales AES selected AEM because of its proven expertise and quality in this highly skilled area of aviation," said Thales AES's representative. Thales AES designs, develops and produces electrical power generation systems, primarily for aircraft, and is a world leader in both commercial and military sectors.
